SUMMARY:Fill’er up mate
LOCATION:101 Mayne Street\, Gulgong NSW 2852\, Australia
DESCRIPTION:The book launch of Fill’er up mate! will occur on 15th November 2025, 4:00pm at the Gulgong Opera House. The book is 16 months of research into the forgotten men, women and businesses who helped Gulgong pioneer the automobile during the 20th century. A lot has been written about Holtermann, Lawson, the gold rush era and even the many pubs in Gulgong. This is understandable but what about others of equal stature, waiting for someone to expose their mark in history? Could a soiled mechanic or a greasy garage feature in Holtermann’s collection or even a verse from Henry? The answer quickly became yes and why not as these were men and women who weren’t afraid of hard work or risk. Names such as Loneragan, Stahl, Norris, Wood, Perry and businesses like Wyaldra Motors, Gulgong Motors, Cross & Hill Garage, Eric Brown Garage, Meers and many more are featured in both text and pictures, a true stroll down memory lane. With the help of the Pioneers Museum, The National Library, The National Trust of Australia and the memories of our local citizens, Fill’er up mate! is a narration that honours the town’s proud history and those who contributed. The Historic Vehicle Club Gulgong welcomes all to attend the launch.
