Step into the landscapes that shaped Henry Lawson, as stories and songs inspired by the Eurunderee and Pipeclay Gulgong district are brought vividly to life by The Roweths.

Jason Roweth and Chloe Roweth, known together as The Roweths, are among Australia’s most respected interpreters of traditional music, poetry, and storytelling. With a career spanning more than two decades, the duo have dedicated themselves to researching, preserving, and performing the living tradition of Australian folk culture. Their work draws deeply from the songs, poems, and yarns of rural life, capturing voices from shearers’ huts, verandahs, campfires, and country pubs, and bringing them vividly to modern audiences. Both accomplished musicians and storytellers, Jason and Chloe combine vocals with instruments such as guitar and mandolin, weaving together traditional ballads, original compositions, bush poetry, and historical narrative. Their performances are known for their warmth and authenticity, reflecting the spirit of old-style bush entertainment while offering fresh and thoughtful interpretations of Australia’s cultural heritage.

At the heart of their work is a commitment to keeping Australia’s stories alive, reviving lesser-known songs, celebrating iconic writers like Henry Lawson, and connecting audiences with the nation’s rich cultural past. Their performances often blend music, folklore, and social history into immersive, themed experiences that resonate across generations. This year at the Gulgong Henry Lawson Heritage Festival, audiences can expect exactly that: a heartfelt, engaging journey through the words, music, and spirit of Australia’s bush heritage, delivered by two of its most passionate and accomplished storytellers. Come along for some amazing performances in the town where Henry Lawson grew up, this June long weekend.
